Lili Boulanger

One cannot spell "Lili Boulanger" without "banger." That seems like an appropriate introduction to the tragically limited but nonetheless great works of the composer Marie-Juliette Olga "Lili" Boulanger, who was born in France and died in France.

Some music by Lili Boulanger.

Vielle Priere Bouddhique.

D'un matin de printemps.

D'un soir triste.

Les clarieres du ciel.

Faust et Helene.

Psalm 129.

Psalm 130.

Bonus: a musician who I believe follows in the vein of Lili Boulanger (sadgirl art songs; died too young) is Elizabeth "Connie" Converse. Connie Converse never recorded in a studio, as far as I can tell. There are a few surviving recordings of Converse's music, taken mainly by her friends. One of her songs is called "I Have Considered the Lilies." The lilies of the song, "never toil; they only bloom." I hope you consider the Lili [Boulanger], who both toiled and bloomed, to a full extent.
